Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must possess a Degree in Engineering with 65% marks, calculated as an average of all semesters irrespective of different weightage systems adopted by the respective Institute or University.
The degree must be in any one of the seven Engineering disciplines listed below:
Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechanical, and Metallurgy.
Age Limit (as on 05-12-2025)
- The maximum age limit is 28 years, meaning the applicant must not be born earlier than 05.12.1997.
- For Departmental Candidates, the upper age limit is 45 years, regardless of their caste or category.
- Age relaxation is applicable according to existing government guidelines.
Salary
The Management Trainees (Technical) will receive a Basic Pay of ₹ 50,000 per month, within the pay scale of ₹ 50000–160000.
Upon successfully completing one year of training, the Management Trainees (Technical) will be promoted to the position of Assistant Manager in E1 grade, placed under a pay scale of ₹ 60000–180000.
In addition to Basic Pay, Dearness Allowance will also be provided. Employees will be entitled to various perquisites under the cafeteria system, along with benefits such as PF, Gratuity, and additional allowances following company regulations.
The company further extends facilities such as Leave Encashment, Housing/HRA, and free medical services for employees and their dependents as per company rules.
The approximate CTC amounts to Rs. 16–17 Lakhs per annum, excluding PRP and location-based allowances. Since this is direct recruitment, the company will not assume responsibility for any previous employment contributions such as pension or leave salary.

Selection Process
Eligible applicants must attend a Computer-Based Online Examination (CBT), tentatively scheduled for January–February 2026.
The exam will be conducted in major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, among others. Once the application is submitted, candidates cannot request a change in exam center. SAIL retains the authority to add or remove exam centers depending on candidate volume.
The Online Exam comprises 200 marks and is divided into two sections:
Part I: Domain Knowledge Test
- Marks: 100
- Duration: 40 minutes
Part II: Aptitude Test
- Marks: 100
- Duration: 80 minutes
- Includes: Quantitative Aptitude, English, Reasoning, General Awareness (25 marks each)
To qualify for GD and Interview:
- UR/EWS: Minimum 50 percentile in each part
- SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwBD: Minimum 40 percentile in each part
Candidates who clear the CBT will be shortlisted for Group Discussion and Interview in a 1:3 ratio, category- and discipline-wise.
Call letters for GD/Interview will be available on the SAIL website and sent through email.
The final merit list will be prepared based on:
- CBT: 75% weightage
- Group Discussion: 10% weightage
- Interview: 15% weightage
In the event of a tie, priority will be given to the candidate scoring higher in the CBT. If the tie persists, preference goes to the candidate with superior marks in the qualifying Engineering degree.
